Chicago Area Restaurateur of Greek Descent - George Kalkounos
After growing up on a farm in Greece and coming to America in 1967, George Kalkounos became interested in the restaurant business. Having completed his degree in agriculture and culinary studies in Greece, George Kalkounos went on to work for several restaurants and clubs across Chicago, diligently learning the craft from the ground up.

With over 40 cumulative years of experience, Mr. Kalkounos has also made his wife and children part of the business. The family has developed renowned suburban restaurants like Chicago Prime Steakhouse and Chicago Prime Italian. The steakhouse has won praise from Wine Spectator magazine and from the Open Table website.

Mr. Kalkounos lives in Inverness, Illinois, a northwestern suburb of Chicago, with his wife Maggie. A member of the Greek American Restaurant Association and the Schaumburg (Illinois) Business Development Board. George Kalkounos is also a certified wine spectator. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with the family, learning about Greek history, and traveling. He still maintains a small home in Greece.
